The Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) program is designed to attract foreign nationals who wish to reside in Malaysia long-term.
This program offers multiple benefits, including visa-free entry, opportunities for business and work, and tax exemptions. Here's a detailed look at the latest 2024 version of the MM2H program.
MM2H Tiers
You can choose the Silver, Gold, or Platinum tiers, each with its own requirements and benefits.
Financial requirements
Applicants must place a fixed deposit in a Malaysian bank:
- Silver: RM 750,000
- Gold: RM 2 million
- Platinum: RM 5 million
Upon approval for the MM2H program, participants can withdraw up to 50% of the fixed deposit for home purchases, education, health, and tourism.
Property value limits
MM2H participants can purchase real estate in Malaysia provided they meet the minimum property value thresholds:
- Silver: RM 600,000
- Gold: RM 1 million
- Platinum: RM 2 million
Participants are not permitted to sell their property for 10 years but can upgrade to higher value homes.
Participation fees
The participation fee varies depending on the category:
- Silver: RM 1,000
- Gold: RM 3,000
- Platinum: RM 200,000
No participation fee is required for dependants.
Benefits and validity
Visa validity
- Silver: 5 years renewable
- Gold: 15 years renewable
- Platinum: 20 years renewable
All categories are multiple entry visas, allowing unrestricted entry and exit from Malaysia.
Tax exemptions
Funds brought into Malaysia from abroad are tax-exempt under the MM2H program.
Allowed dependants
Spouses, children, and parents can accompany the primary applicant.
Health examination
A mandatory health examination is required for all applicants and dependants at clinics or hospitals appointed by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.
Health insurance
Required for any participant below 60 years old. Those over 60 years old can use the pay-as-you-go method. However, it might not be the best option, so some kind of insurance is advisable.

The MM2H program does not grant permanent residence status.
Renewal fees
- Silver: RM 1,500
- Gold: RM 3,000
- Platinum: RM 5,000

Sarawak MM2H Program (S-MM2H)
Sarawak State manages its own MM2H program. An approved participant can buy a residential house in Sarawak at a minimum price of RM 600,000 per unit in Kuching and RM500,000 per unit in other divisions.
The purchase does not require approval from the Foreign Investment Committee (FIC). Each application must be supported by a sponsor who is originally from Sarawak and currently resides there. A sponsor can only support one application.
Who is eligible:
- Applicants aged 50 and above (spouses, if any, have no age limit).
- Applicants aged 40-50 with an investment in residential real estate of at least RM600,000.
- Applicants aged 30-50 undergoing long-term medical treatment in Sarawak or having children studying in Sarawak.
Financial requirement:
Fixed deposit:
- RM300,000 for couples
- RM150,000 for individuals
In addition to the fixed deposit, you have to show a certain level of monthly income. This can be either your pension or any other offshore income:
- Monthly income of over RM10,000 for couples
- Monthly income of over RM7,000 for individuals
Applicants can apply directly or through a licensed agent. For direct applications, a sponsor who is a Sarawakian currently residing in Sarawak is required. If an applicant cannot find a sponsor, they may apply through a licensed agent.
The S-MM2H pass is valid for 10 years. Initially, a maximum 5-year pass is issued, which must be renewed to extend it for another 5 years.
Sabah State MM2H program
Sabah State also manages its own MM2H program.
The Sabah-MM2H program offers a five-year visa, renewable for an additional five years. It requires individual applicants to have a minimum fixed deposit of RM150,000 and a monthly offshore income of RM10,000.
Unlike the Sarawak-MM2H program, Sabah mandates that applicants, regardless of age, purchase high-rise property in the state valued at a minimum of RM600,000.
